About Last Night: Analog

Last night I went to Analog in Brooklyn to hear Danny Krivit...it has been quite some time since I venture out dancing. Loved the space, the sound system and the enthusiastic dancing crowd.  A much needed club dancing fix.  Here is one inspired from the night. Isolee's "Beau Mot Page" which sounded so incredibly fresh and added Cluster & Eno's "Die Bunge" sprinkled with some First Choice for added measures. Enjoy

Happy Pride

Happy Pride weekend! Here is an old school mix using two turntables and a mixer. I remember playing with a lot with different acapellas and experimenting throwing things together. I'm surprised how well this mix holds up to this day and I'm loving the analog quality of the sound. Enjoy!

Love Is

 Here is a brilliant re-work Al Green's 70's classic "Love & Happiness from Nicholas of the Small World Disco Edits series.  Last night  I celebrated the New Year New York style by going to the event:  Keep On Dancin' Remembering Mel Cheren with the music of The Paradise Garage. A benefit party organized by Lifebeat, GMHC and Area at Santos Party House for AIDS/HIV prevention.  It was quite a party and a truly New York experience to be surrounded and dancing with many veteran Paradise Garage members. We danced to the wee hours to the classics and saw a great performance by Ten City's front man Byron Stingily who did an amazing renditions of "Devotion" and "That's The Way Love Is" and not to mention Sylvester's "Mighty Real".  The turn tables were manned by Jellybean Benitez, David Depino and Joey Llanos all great legendary DJ's that never fail to amaze.  "Love & Happiness" by First Choice brought the house down so here is another twist of that song that has taken Al Green's classic to new heights.  The night ended with the original version of left field dance classic "Voices Inside My Head" by The Police.   Love is and long live the Paradise Garage!

Rush Hour To Hong Kong

Happy "Good Friday". Another gorgeous day in the city! Today, I ventured out to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens to see the cherry blossoms at the Japanese Garden for inspiration. I am posting "Rush Hour To Hong Kong" from a 1960's LP titled Vibes Galore by Louie Ramirez. I love the cocktail hour feel of this timeless song and it would go well at any house party or lounge. The song has a cheeky oriental flavour that also wouldn't be out of place in a 60's spy movie. I discovered the music of Louie Ramirez upon listening to some great disco covers he did with a Latin flavor he did during the mid 70's such as "Bad Luck" by The O'Jays and First Choice's "Do It Anyway You Wanna" from his LP titled A Different Shade Of Black . Both were great Latin variations of disco classics that were popular at the discotheques. Ramirez is known as a composer, arranger, percussionist and vibraharpist. This song was recently featured in Gillles Peterson's Fania DJ Series CD. So I give you an Oriental/Latin feel for your cocktail hour to get you geared up of Easter weekend! Enjoy
