Here is one from the CD vaults.  I have been rediscovering some hidden gems upon listening to some from 2005 that probably were never logged digitally even though they were actually created digitally! Where I made a loop out of a Leo Dan classic song, added a poem from I don't even remember where evolving into "Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight" by Dominatrix. I'm probably not making any sense this late in the evening but here it goes Enjoy!

This is the first of a series of Michael Jackson homages that I did when he passed away but never felt they were ready to put out. After a few tweaks here and there I'm finally comfortable sharing. Enjoy!

Depecheowie

From the CD vaults I found this crazy mash-up called Depecheowie.  Sprinkling some Bowie instrumentals with some Depeche Mode loops. A very unlikely marriage.  This was the time when I had a Dell computer and  was experimenting using separate sound files  composed of breaks and edits. I would splice them up to create loops and record them on external mic in front of the speakers for the final mix. I bit obsolete by today's standards I mus say but still sounds nice. Enjoy

March Mix

"Beware of the idles of March"...It's hard not to escape that thought as I write this post with all the insanity that has happened this month.  Starting on a positive side with the peaceful culmination of the Egyptian uprising then the earthquake, tsunami  and nuclear tragedy in Japan and now another war in the Middle East in  Libya.   All having major global implications impacting humanity on so many deeper levels.  With all of that said as the world mourns,  I  was inclined to make a mix that reflects hope, love, freedom and redemption amidst tragedy and death.    The March Mix features a healthy dose of Jazz, soul, gospel,  disco, house and a nice emphasis on some great Japanese acts that I felt right for this mix.
The emphasis here is of hope, freedom, rebirth and a bit of escape during this hard times.  Enjoy!

December Mix

Wishing you all a Happy Holidays filled with love, beauty, family and peace.  Here is the latest mix from the monthly series by Dj Glamjack.  The "December Mix" is a tour de force of uncharted territory with as wide a spectrum of songs that borderline on the left field side of dance, world and house music.  Lately I have been exploring some mid '70s and mid to late '80s Chicago house as the inspiration for this mix.   The overall feel is very '80s with a few exceptions.  It has very percussive/world music feel as well with some great dubs, accapellas and reworks of some well known songs.  Also, there is a very intense and poignant speech from Charlie Chaplin's movie "The Great Dictator" which is mixed with some interesting beats and has the potential of being the next great house speech for the dance floor.  Enjoy!

Blend III

It is about that time to deliver a new mix from Dj Glamjack.  The blend series have been one of the  most popular ones on this site so here is the third installment for your listening pleasure.   Most of the songs are all stand along making it challenging to create a cohesive "blend".   The songs featured comprise an eclectic mix of old, new, local and international flavors.  The mix comprises of artists that has been exciting  and stimulating my ears as of recently and yes, a lot of them happen to be from the '80s and of course the '70s.  Crue-L Grand Orchestra who could have easily been from the '70s jump start this mix and specially blended with Maximum Joy's classic "Silent Street" whom is evident they took the sample from for their "Cynmopeide No. 1" lullaby of a song.  Followed by an amazing band recently discovered called Dan Boadi and the African Internationals performing a simple yet satisfying number about the evils of money.  Then the drama gets even more intense with Lalo Schifrin's disco rendition of the theme of Jaws. Followed by an interesting song by recently discovered rare and brilliant find from an '80s German band called Oppenheimer Analysis singing about "The Devil's Dancers". Lalo Schifrin resurfaces here with a stunning song called "Dragonfly" exploring a playful 70's spirit with a Van McCoy classic "Party".  One of my favorite songs from the '80s gets revisited here with an extended mix of "Promises, Promises" from Naked Eyes followed by Section 25's  sweet "Inspiration".  The mix moves along to 2010 with a gorgeous song from  Hercules Love Affair's own  Kim Ann Foxman called "Creature" which recalls an amazing late '80s house song from Project 86 called "Legends".  This mix concludes with a great song from 1976 from Tommy Stewart's self-titled LP called "Fulton County Line" blending into an 1982 classic from Junior "Mama Used To Say".  If there is a theme on this mix, it could be that of self-reflection, associations, inspiration and metaphor.  Hope you enjoy it!

Love or Las Vegas

I'm off for vacation to visit Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon so I will leave you with a mix that has inspired me for this trip.  You wont hear Elvis, Sinatra or Liberace on this one.  Nothing against them since I love them all; however,  I wanted to create an off beat feeling for this mix that would create a sort of sound scape that would capture an unexpected feeling of what I perceive to be the spirit of Sin City with its visceral and majestic nature that surrounds it.   I have never visited that area of the country so I am looking forward to that experience.  I am planning on doing a part two of this mix upon my return to see how my perception changes.  Enjoy

100th Post!

Here is part two of the Blend series from DJ Glamjack to commemorate the 100th post on this blog. It is hard to believe it has been almost six months since I started this blog.  I want to  thank all of you my dear and darling readers, listeners and disco lovers for tuning in to Disco Monk.  As I was tallying up the most downloaded tunes, I was pleasantly surprised and encouraged to discover that the Glamjack Re-Entry mixes had the highest downloads.  Also, high on popularity where featured songs by Dee Dee Sharp Gamble, Stupid Human, The Revenge, Maynard Ferguson, The Hollies and Mad Mats to name a few.  A healthy dose of old and new I must say.  I will take those statistics into consideration and hope to continue bringing you more amazing disco and dance gems of yesterday, now and tomorrow.  "Blend II" was a very liberating mix to make since it incorporated many musical genres that I love and was inspired to experiment with many different styles to fit the mood of each segment and focused again on the transitions between songs.   Enjoy!

Glamjack Of The Spirits

A beautiful day in city today and it almost felt like spring with that big blue sky engulfing all of us! I realized that I haven't shared any of my own song re-works lately, so here's one for your listening pleasure. This is a song called "Fellini Odyssey" and since it's Oscar weekend it seems only appropriate to feature a song based on a movie; one of my favorite movies for that matter. This song is from Federico Fellini's fantastic film "Juliet Of The Spirits", a deliciously neurotic story and visual orgy that was nominated for two 1967 Academy Awards including Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design. The movie score was done by none other than Nino Rota who was Fellini's main music man. Nino Rota was a world renowned composer who is best known for film scores. He scored nearly all of Fellini's films and took cinema music scores to new heights. He also scored films by Luchino Visconti, Franco Zeffirelli and the first two of Francis Ford Coppola's Godfather trilogy. He wrote more than 150 movie scores for Italian and international productions from the 1930's until his death in 1979. Nino Rota, thank you for giving us amazing music! Enjoy
