The enduring brilliance of Chicago House: Shake Your Body

Here are two versions of a huge house classic "Shake Your Body" by Jeanette "JT" Thomas to get your Saturday groove going. It was produced and mixed by legendary Mitchbal at Time Zone Studio in Chicago.  This song pretty much epitomizes the brilliance of Chicago house music.   I'm including Timmy Regisford's daring edit as well. It is a slightly different take than the originally, longer with heavier bass breaks and some nice conga riffs sprinkled to heighten the vibe.  Nothing beats the original but it still holds up pretty well and still sounds daringly amazing to this day! Enjoy

A new club classic!

Happy Friday! Hands down my new favorite club classic so far this decade is "At The Club" by Lynn Lockamy and Tim Regisford to put you in the mood.  Trinidad born, Regisford  is know for his brand of soulful dance music.. He started in 1985 at WBLS radio station in New York City where he soon became Music Director for the station. He then moved on into productions for such incredible dance acts as Loose Ends and Colonel Abrams.  His remixes are truly legendary and powerful.  He is also the founder of the Shelter parties here in the city where his is the resident DJ and continues to deliver amazing classics and here is one from 2010 that is already a classic in my book. Enjoy!

Body & Soul MLK Jr. Weekend

It was time again to honor the life of Martin Luther King Jr. New York City style by going to the legendary Body & Soul at Webster Hall.  The party was stunning with the trio comprised of  legendary Joe Clausell, Francois K and Danny Krivit manning the turntables.  The music was exquisite with a blend of old school house and some classic disco.  Highlights were a sublime remix presented by Joe Clausell of Eddie Grant's "Timewarp"with a harmonica/bluesy break that lifted souls on that dance floor.  He actually remixed the original and added the break from "Nobody Got Time", a brilliant re-take of  the same song  by Timmy Regisford.    Also, disco classic "Boogie Wonderland" by Earth Wind & Fire brought the house down in the tradition  of B&S.  Danny Krivit dropped an exciting never heard of before, cinematic instrumental epic disco song.  I was also pleasantly surprised and taken by the early 00's house that was played with some forgotten yet amazing tracks making the evening memorable.  One such tune was Beth Orton's emblematic "Central Reservation"  elevating the song to  dance classic status.   So here is the Spiritual Life/Ibadan remix of "Central Reservation", an interesting live take of Eddy Grant's "Timewarp" from one of David Mancuso's loft parties plus Timmy Regisford's "Nobody Got Time" and "Earth Wind & Fire's classic "Boogie Wonderland" giving you  great time capsule of the event.  Enjoy!

Without You

"...got get you back into my life got to get you get you get you back...into my life..." It's 1987 and this was undeniable an urgent call "back" into the dance floor. Little it's known about this house music outfit except that it was mixed by house legend Timmy Regisford. Also, that this was a Paradise Garage classic that brought the house down, Larry Levan would play it late at night and I just can imagine what it did to the dancers on that famous sound system. My own experience with this song was being under aged and dancing to it at Cafe Lafitte in Exile (The oldest gay bar in the United States where Walt Whitman was once a patron) and then later at a place called House of Desire a short lived house music club off Bourbon Street, New Orleans. Talk about hardcore here! They also released two other amazing house gems, "Fallen" and "Love Fixation". This is house music children!
