Yesterday, I saw the film Shame with my dear "Disco Mistress" Coty as an after dinner celebration of her birthday and what an lovely surprise was to hear this song in it's full glory in a current and poignant movie that tackles the hot topic of sexual addiction. What stroke me most about the film was the nice selection of dance classics from Tom Tom Club, Blondie and Chic done exceptionally well visually while carrying such lurid story line. Also, the fact that having a turntable these days seems like such a status symbol of "cool" while making a point on the acoustic beauty of listening to vinyl these days. "I Want Your Love" was composed by the legendary Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards. The track first appeared on their 1978 album C'est Chic and it was originally intended for then proteges, Sister Sledge but remained Chic. The song has been covered by many such as Jody Watley in 2006, and remixed by Soulcast, Thomas Gold. Danny Krivit has amazing edit also. Here is the original 12" mix version in it's full glory and the amazing re-edited remix from Dimitri From Paris. Enjoy!

The Night The Lights Went Out
Here is a brilliant disco gem by The Trammps that has been re-worked by Mr. Dimitri from Paris. "The Night The Lights Went Out" was originally released in 1977 to commemorate the electrical blackout that affected New York City on July 13 of that same year and caused havoc to the city. It is worth noting here that the looting of electronics stores during this blackout allowed a number of looters to steal DJ equipment and as a result of these thefts, the Hip Hop genre, barely known outside of the Bronx, grew at an astounding rate from 1977 onwards. The instrumentation of this song with its gorgeous strings and heavy bass with its classic elegant Philly sound orchestration could not disappoint any dance floor but it's also the message of "where where you...". It made me think of where were you when meaningful events happen to someone. Events of a personal nature, happy or sad, struggles and milestones or an a historical one that could illicit a strong memory. Is this memory attached with a song? As far as this LP, I am truly enjoying this whole compilation devoted to the Philly sound. A smart collection of songs in their original form and the "re-worked" versions done brilliantly by Mr. Dimitri. This is a beautiful time capsule that captures the feeling, uniqueness and magical time when Disco was done properly and merged beautifully with Soul. Here is to the Philly sound! Where were you?

Stay Free
It is time to post not one but three timeless classics to start off the weekend. Starting with one of my old time favorite dance songs that never seem to tire my ears, "Stay Free". The message here is simple and powerful. Loving someone and let them stay free. Created by legendary husband and wife songwriting/production team simply know as Ashford and Simpson. Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson have written, produced and performed some of the most amazing, most compelling and deep timeless songs ranging from R&B, Soul, Disco, Motown and Gospel from the 20th Century. I am loving the new re-edited treatment Dimitri From Paris has done to this amazing song. Stripping it down to it's essence giving it almost an instrumental feel without loosing the song's integrity taking the listener to pure bliss. Also, here is another dance classic, the disco 12" mix of "Over and Over". Released as a dance single in 1977, this song inspired Sylvester to make his own version which is also featured here. All amazing dance classics that are high on my list of all time favorites to enjoy! Speaking of lists, stay tune for my list of favorite songs from 2010 coming soon!
