Ms. Roisin Murphy!

It's time to pay duly homage to this amazing woman of dance music. Ms. Roisin Murphy has been around since 1995 along with producer Mike Brydon as the vocalist for Moloko. From the get go these two would would make their mark with fantastic electronic dance tracks so far ahead of their time with their single "Fun For Me", fast forward three more years and they came up with their sublime  "Sing It Back" breaking ground as far as dance music goes. Then they consistently had some incredible dance rompers such as "The Time is Now" and "Forever More" during the early 2000's and topping with pristine release of "Statues" which was basically their break up album. Ms. Murphy proceeded to explore different sounds a as a solo artist and a force to be reckon with with "Never Enough", "Overpowered" and several amazing tracks showcasing a unique take on what electronic and dance music should be in this new century. Following a hiatus, with a few releases here and there, she has now returned with "Incapable" currently tearing up every dance floor and it got me so excited about this iconic Irish lady's work again! Went of a whim and remixed it without thinking much about the outcome and it has become a hit on my soundcloud page! I recently went to "718 Sessions" where Danny Krivit played and it tore up the dance floor making this already another dance classic for the books.  For this remix I slowed a bit from the original, re-edited, elongated some breaks and added some atmospheric riffs to enhance more the '80's/Human League and already house vibe from the original. Happy Easter! To commemorate the season here is a disco classic that is a clear testament of the love power from above.  Every time I hear this song if feels like a warm blanket over my soul.  Even though the song was probably written in reference to a loved one as in a romantic relationship, I always feel the song is transcendental with a strong spiritual message.  The song was released in 1980 produced and written by Rodney Brown and Willie Lester and mixed by Francois K with vocals by the stunning Gayle Adams.

Ms. Adams recorded two albums for one the most important dance-oriented record labels of all time Prelude.  "Love Fever" was Adams most successful single reaching number six on the US dance charts.  However, "Your Love.." is still bringing the dance floor to a frenzy every time is played during the legendary Body & Soul and 718 Session parties.

Happy Birthday Disco Monk!

Happy Birthday Disco Monk! It is hard to believe it's February and it's been one year since I started this blog!  I appreciate all of you who have been supportive and enthusiastic about this idea.   All of your comments and suggestions make my day and are very welcomed, so please keep them coming.  Aside from my love of music that makes you move, I'm so happy to be part of this idea of sharing and building online communities based on similar and /or unique tastes and passions. This is the month of celebration of love, so here is a good song to start the month with Disco Monk and the amazing Debbie Jacobs with "Don't You Want My Love".  Born in Baltimore, this Disco lady had several hits from her 1980 release of High on Your Love.  My friend Wiki tells me that the album title song along with "Hot Hot (Give It All You Got)" went to #1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.  Other '70s hits included, "Don't You Want My Love" featured here, and "Undercover Lover", which are her best known hit singles.  She enjoyed a second #1 dance hit in 2000 in a new version of "Don't You Want My Love".  Other famous disco/club-era tracks performed by Debbie Jacobs include "Doctor Music" and "Maybe This Time".  "Maybe This Time" is a rare record and has been known to fetch high asking prices.    Lately, I've been hearing this song being played by Danny Krivit at his 718 Sessions and Body & Soul parties and believe me when I tell you that this song "turns it out", hand claps on the dance floor!  Enjoy!

Last night I had the pleasure of hearing one of my favorite DJs around, Mr. Danny Krivit  who's holding the torch by keeping the spirit alive at his now legendary 718 Sessions at Santos Party House.  His party is what I believe,  to be the only one that captures the spirit of dance music properly now days.  The set was flawless and it kept me dancing all night long featuring many classics such as James Brown's "Get On The Good Foot" and  Touch's "Without You" to name a few.  The party was a celebration of his release of Volume 2 of his amazing edits series called  Edits by Mr. K Vol. 2.  So here is one of my current favorite "Let Me Down Easy" by Rare Pleasure and what a pleasure it is to hear  and dance to this tune.  According the the liner notes from this must have fabulous CD,  "this song is a scarce 1976 release from Cheri Records and a song that has grown in stature to a full fledge disco bomb, thanks in part to its relentless piano line and honeyed vocal from a young Sandy Barber (who later recorded the house smash 'Make World Go Round') which brings back memories of Johnny Dynell dropping this one at the legendary mid '90s party, Jackie 60.   The piano riff of this song, a clear precursor to the standard groove of early house music that was sampled prominently by David Morales for his 1998 hit 'Needin' U' (which took it's title hook from the Chi-Lites 'My First Mistake'). Danny Krivit wrote: "This was a big club record.  I thought of it as an extension of the Philly sound.  It's one of the first 12" singles too, in that first year." Enjoy!
