  1. I discovered Jackie when 'This Time Baby' was released on a 12 inch single in 1979, and in Australia it was very hard to get a copy of the original Columbia 12 inch (catalogue number 23-10994). The song was selected by Jackie herself after she heard the O'Jays version and was included on the LP "I'm On My Way' that was released in 1979. Little did she realise that the song would become the number one disco classic of 1979 and has never dated from its release that year. I play this song almost every day and never ever get tired of hearing her singing it. I was shocked and stunned to hear of her passing at the age of 73 in November 2019 however I learned that she had been married to Pastor Cal Hopkins for 38 years (from 1981) and was affectionately known as “Lady J”. They have three adult children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, so her legacy lives on through her family. Jackie was born in 1946 in Jacksonville, Florida - she released 4 albums namely: Sweet Charlie Baby (1973); Make Me Feel Like A Woman (1975); I'm On My Way (1979) and With Your Love (1980). A number of 12 inch singles were released over the next 1-15 years, including Seconds (with Wilson Pickett); 'This Old Heart of Mine' (Jobete Palpitation Mix), 'Helpless', 'I'll Do Anything For Your Love' (Joel Dickinson mix), 'Wrapped Up In Your Lovin'', 'Let's Go Somewhere and Make Love' and 'Can You Tell Me Why'. A lot of her classic songs from the 'I'm On My Way' and 'With Your Love' albums have been remixed and some are on Youtube. The Freemasons song 'Love On My Mind' featuring Amanda Wilson sampled 'This Time Baby' and was a huge hit in 2005. Jackie's contribution to disco and soul deserved more recognition and may she now rest in peace, a beautiful soul with a voice that can stir emotions - RIP Jackie.
